4 Reasons Why Online Yoga Classes Rock

Writer: Rachel BradyRachel Brady

If you think online yoga is disconnected, cold, impersonal and lesser, think again. Online yoga classes can be more connected, a safer space, and you can get deeper connection to yourself - and others -than in a studio setting....

Online Yoga Classes can be BETTER than studio ones!
Online Yoga Classes Rock!

Yoga is one of those practices that can meet you exactly where you are—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. And while in-person classes can be amazing, there’s something truly special about the freedom, safety, ease and flexibility of practicing yoga online.

I have my next block of online yoga classes starting on February 25th 2025, keep up to date with the dates (I operate in blocks of 6) with the next block here - or email if you wish to jump in mid block and I will try my best to accommodate!

Whether you're a seasoned yogi or just starting, online yoga offers some serious perks that in-studio sessions can’t always provide. Here are four key reasons why online yoga rocks:

1. Online Yoga Classes Are Trauma-Informed (and all cosy at home!)

Yoga is a powerful tool for healing, and online yoga has made it more accessible to people who may feel uncomfortable or overwhelmed in traditional studio environments - a lot of us! Online platforms often offer trauma-informed yoga, where the focus is on creating a safe, supportive space for all bodies and experiences.

What does trauma-informed yoga mean?

It means that teachers are trained to be sensitive to the physical, emotional, and mental needs of their students. They’re mindful of language, use of hands-on adjustments, and creating a non-judgmental environment. This is especially important for individuals who may be dealing with past trauma, anxiety, or stress. I have covered trauma informed yoga in my teacher trainings.

Practicing from the comfort of your own home allows you to take things at your own pace. You’re in charge of how deep you go into the poses, when to pause for a breath, and whether or not you need to take a break. There’s no pressure, only permission to move at your own rhythm. Camera on, or off - your choice!

2. Online Yoga Classes: No Excuses (Less Obstacles: hello car, traffic, outfit, make up, childcare etc etc)

Life can throw a lot at us—work commitments, social obligations, the chaos of family life, or even just the weather. The beauty of online yoga is that it eliminates the usual barriers that prevent you from rolling out your mat.

You don’t have to worry about:

  • Travel time: You’re already at home, so there’s no commute required.

  • Studio hours: Practice whenever you want. Early morning, late night, or during your lunch break—online yoga fits into your schedule. I offer online, live classes from Feb 25th but going forward will also be offering an on demand catalogue too so that tyou can dip into it whenever you need to.

  • Equipment: All you need is a mat (or a bath towel) and some space. You can practice in your living room, bedroom, or even outside on a sunny day—no studio or special props required.

  • Childcare - practice with the kids jumping around - pets too!

  • Outfits / makeup - yoga is not about what you look like, but when you are in public, you have to make that extra effort! Not so, online.

Because you can practice from anywhere, at any time, you can fit yoga into your life rather than trying to fit your life around yoga. The convenience factor means there are zero excuses not to show up for yourself, and that’s a game changer when it comes to consistency.

3. No Comparing Yourself to Others with Online Yoga Classes (be gone, comparison-itis!)

One of the most liberating things about online yoga is that it removes the “comparison trap” that can sometimes crop up in in-person classes. When you're practicing on your own at home, you can completely focus on your body and your experience without worrying about what anyone else is doing.

In traditional studio classes, it’s easy to get caught up in what the person next to you is doing, whether that’s comparing flexibility, strength, or endurance. With online yoga, you’re free from distractions and external pressures. It’s just you, your mat, and your practice.

This absence of comparison makes yoga an even more personal and empowering journey. You can embrace your own progress without the feeling of competition or judgment. And over time, this builds not just physical strength but also emotional and mental resilience as you learn to celebrate your own growth, no matter how big or small.

4. Enhanced Connection with Online Yoga Classes?! (yes, that's MORE connection)

One of the unique benefits of online yoga is the ability to connect more deeply during our live check-ins. These check ins are not recorded, and they offer a safe space, non judgmental, where we simply hold space for each other whilst we say how we are doing - they are also totally optional. These sessions allow us to engage and interact with one another in real-time, fostering a sense of community that often goes beyond what’s possible in an in-person class. This virtual connection can be especially beneficial for neurodiverse individuals or those who find it challenging to initiate conversations in person. Despite many of us having never met face-to-face, we create a welcoming and supportive environment that makes building relationships easier and more meaningful.

Final Thoughts on why Online Yoga Classes Rock!

Online yoga is more than just a convenient option—it’s a transformative experience that offers a supportive, trauma-informed environment, eliminates excuses and obstacles, and frees you from the pressure of comparing yourself to others PLUS offers more potential for friendship and connection, even for shy or ND folks! Whether you're just starting your practice or looking to deepen your connection to yoga, online classes provide an accessible, empowering, and flexible way to embrace this life-changing practice.

So, next time you’re thinking about whether to roll out your mat, remember: online yoga is there when you need it, without the barriers, comparisons, or stress. And that, my friend, is why online yoga rocks!
